Strong display of performance for Charouz Racing System on the last day of FIA Formula 2 official tests in Barcelona

15 April 2022
It was a very special day for me, being able to step back in the car with my old team. I’m grateful for the opportunity and it was a lot of fun to drive this car again. Obviously was a bit difficult for me to have a good pace right from the start, it was more of a learning session in the morning then in the afternoon it got better and also the track was quicker.

On the closing day of these second and last FIA Formula 2 official test sessions, Charouz Racing System ends its preparation work on a very positive note. At the Circuit of Barcelona-Catalunya, Enzo Fittipaldi and David Beckmann (who’s stepped in today to replace the injured Cem Bölükbasi) showed a really strong pace and an impressive performance level on the Spanish track, that will host Round 5 on May 20-22.

The Brazilian driver has always been in the top 10 starting from the performance runs in the morning, finding an even better pace in the afternoon closing the session in P3. His best lap time was a notable 1:28.027, ninth fastest overall in today’s classification. Beckmann, on his side, was really quick to get up to speed in no time at the wheel of a car he knows quite well from last season, delivering some very good runs that helped the team to get the job done and call it a day with a lot of useful things learned. Something that could prove to be really crucial for the team for the next races on the calendar. For the German, who closed the afternoon session in P4 right behind Fittipaldi, the personal best for today was a 1:29.434.

Up next is Round 4 of the 2022 season, that will go underway on April 22-24 at the legendary Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. The whole team is already fully focused on maximizing the competitiveness reached in these three days and conquer the first points of the season with both cars.

Antonín Charouz, team owner
The pace we saw in these three days is really, really promising, especially after today’s runs. I think we’re in a very good position for the next rounds, we now have the European tracks coming next and the season is still very long. Being able to improve like we did this week, starting from the good foundations we laid in the first two rounds, is the best possible outcome we could hope for after these testing sessions”.

Enzo Fittipaldi
Today was very positive, on soft tyres we were stably in the top 10 and on hard tyres we were in the top 5. We were very competitive also in the race runs during the afternoon. I think in general it was a very productive test and I’m really happy about that, I’m really looking forward to Imola and I can’t wait to go racing again”.
