Charouz Racing System 2022 FIA Formula 3 campaign comes to an end at Monza

I must admit we’ve had quite too many unlucky episodes during the whole year, but our drivers and all the guys in the team never stopped to push and give their 110% and I wanna thank every single one of them for this.

Charouz Racing System closes the 2022 FIA Formula 3 season with the umpteenth demanding weekend. The last round of this year’s campaign took place at Monza, a circuit where László Tóth, Alessandro Famularo and Francesco Pizzi had to fought their way from the back of the grid after an unlucky Qualifying session.

A red flag prevented once again the three drivers to put together a clean flying lap, but the Hungarian and his two rookie teammates proved their good level of performance during the two races. Starting P29 and P30, Tóth and Famularo managed to climb positions both on Saturday and Sunday, finishing in P22 and P23 the Sprint Race and then in P19 and P23 in the Feature Race, which was also shortened by a red flag.

Pizzi, the best qualifier with his P20, also delivered a strong performance on his home soil, finishing P17 on Saturday (where he had to start from the back because of a penalty) and P16 on Sunday. The Italian remains the only driver to score points in this difficult and unfortunate Formula 3 campaign.

The season goes down in the books but the focus is already on 2023. The work of the team will in fact resume very soon, with three days of post-season testing at Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, on 21-23 September.

We end this season with just one point but also, and more importantly, with the confidence about our work. I must admit we’ve had quite too many unlucky episodes during the whole year, but our drivers and all the guys in the team never stopped to push and give their 110% and I wanna thank every single one of them for this. That’s where we’ll resume and start to prepare for 2023”.

László Tóth
The red flag in Qualifying prevented us to get a good starting positiion. The Sprint Race was quite a mixed race for me, I had a good start and I managed to gain a lot of positions in the first few laps. Then after the safety car restart we couldn’t really keep our position and we started falling back. The Feature Race was quite an exciting one, we managed to gain a lot of positions and it could have gone even better without the red flag. But still, the pace was good and it’s been one of the best races of the season, so this was a quite positive way to end it”.

Alessandro Famularo
After a difficult Friday, where I needed to get my performance back after 15 months without driving, the Sprint Race was a good race. I managed to gain a couple of positions without risking too much, trying to get comfortable with the car lap after lap. Same in the Feature Race, where I made up positions without any mistake, the pace was good and I was able to attack the cars in front of me. A positive weekend for me in the end, I’m quite happy about it”.

Francesco Pizzi
Qualifying wasn’t the best but anyway I had to start from the back in the Sprint race and then, in the first three laps I tried to avoid incidents and mistakes. After that I started to overtake the cars in front of me and make up places. The pace looked really good but unluckily I spent most of the second part of the race out of DRS and that was a big loss for me. Similar situation in the Feature Race, I started 10 places higher on the grid but I was hit from behind at the start and I dropped a few positions back, then I’ve been able to recover until I got out of the DRS from the cars in front and that was it. All in all it wasn’t a bad weekend, I’m glad I had the opportunity to end the season at Monza and I wanna thank the team for the work they’ve done all year”.

I must admit we’ve had quite too many unlucky episodes during the whole year, but our drivers and all the guys in the team never stopped to push and give their 110% and I wanna thank every single one of them for this.
