Lotus scores pole, P2 finish at Monza
The Lotus team ended up on the podium again in race 2 of the Formula V8 3.5 round at Monza after dominating the qualifying session in the morning with a phenomenal front row lockout. Starting from the front row, René Binder crossed the line in second place after delivering a solid performance, while teammate Roy Nissany was prevented from capitalizing on the fantastic pole position he had set in qualifying 2.
At the beginning of the warm-up lap, the Israeli driver suffered a clutch issue which forced him to start from the pit-lane. From that point on, he put together an amazing recovery to the sixth position, securing the fastest lap of the race in the process. He also trimmed his deficit to the leader in points.
Lotus also increased its lead at the top of the team championship, where it now has 302 points. The next round for the Formula V8 3.5 series is scheduled at Spain’s Jerez de la Frontera circuit on the 29th and 30th of October.
René Binder (#3) – Q2 P2 1:34.978 – Race 2 P2 +0.965
“It is good to be on the podium after the great pace we showed in practice. Yesterday I had a bad start but today I could enter the first corner without any problem so I could keep my position even if the start was not perfect”.
Roy Nissany (#4) – Q2 P1 1:34.798 – Race 2 P6 +8.856
“It’s a pity, my pole position was really promising but a miscalculation with the clutch caused a stall. We need to check what happened, because the anti-stall system didn’t work. After having started from the pit-lane I kept a good pace, but we were too far away to reach the podium. Also, my pit-stop was not perfect, but I had some good fights and basically it was a good race”.
